What is the safest way for our dog to travel in our car?
We have a Mercedes A Class, with seats behind the driver and passenger, and the back has a place for our dog to sit comfortably. Should we put something between that middle seat and the area where she sits? Should we put a safety net or metal bars? I´m trying to keep her safe while allowing her to ride in our car.
Please do not waste money on “dog seat belts”. They’re a total joke– what dog wants to be strapped still to the back seat?? It will scratch and wiper and whine and could hurt your dog worse in an accident than if you didn’t have one at all.
If you train your dog to stay seated (or lying down) in the backseat, you shouldn’t have any problems. You could put up a “cage”, but… in a Mercedes? I wouldn’t. Also, if you have kids who ride in the back seat, you wouldn’t be able to get to them if you were in an accident or if something happened that required immediate assistance. If anything, get a traveling crate.
Dogs are not babies… They have survived decades of riding in cars without carseats… It’s just like people who push their dogs around town in strollers… oh my gosh what has the world come to?
